Lex Therien tied a season-high with 27 points on the night for the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team, but the Greyhounds could not overcome a 10-1 run by Colgate University in the fourth quarter, as they dropped their Patriot League opener, 73-65.
Lex Therien scored on a layup with 7:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Greyhounds (5-7 overall, 0-1 Patriot League) regained the lead, 60-59. The Raiders (8-4 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) responded with a 10-1 run over the next 4:05 of game time, as the Raiders pulled away from Loyola to win the Patriot League opener.
Coming out of halftime, Loyola trailed Colgate 40-34. After both teams traded baskets to start the half, a Therien layup at the 6:12 mark kick started a Greyhounds 13-4 run, as they took their first lead of the game.
The Raiders took a 40-32 halftime lead, as both teams shot well from the floor in the first half. Colgate shot 69 percent from the floor in the first half, and Loyola shot 51.7 percent.
Lex Therien had a game-high 27 points on the night, to go with 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals on the night, and recorded her eighth double-double of the season.
Kimmie Hicks scored a career-high 16 points off of the bench on the night, while
Kelly Ratigan had 13 points.
The Raiders had four players in double figures, led by Alexa Brodie who had a season-high 21 points.
The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League play on Saturday, as they will travel to face Lehigh at 2:00 PM.
