BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
Avery Stimmel and
Patrick Hayburn were named the Patriot League Swimmers of the Week on Tuesday after they led the Greyhounds to a pair of victories over the weekend at the H2ounds Invitational.
The two were named the Male & Female Swimmers of the Meet, respectively, as they combined for five individual victories and were on a total of seven winning relay teams.
Stimmel won the 50 and 100 freestyles for the Loyola women and was named the Female Swimmer of the Meet. She took the top spot in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.37 seconds to edge teammate
Charley Tulio by eight-hundredths of a second.
She also was the winner of the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.80, a time that ranks fifth-best in the Patriot League this season. Stimmel finished third in the 100 breaststroke, as well. She was a member of four winning relay teams for the Greyhounds: the 200 freestyle and medley and 400 freestyle and medley relays.
Hayburn won the three spring freestyle events while picking up H2ounds Invitational Male Swimmer of the Meet honors. He captured the 50 freestyle in 20.29 seconds, good for No. 4 in the Patriot League this season, and he took the top spots in the 200 freestyle (1:39.24) and 100 freestyle (45.26).
In the 100 and 200 freestyles, he held off the second-place finisher by four-hundredths and two-hundredths of a second in the respective races. Hayburn was also a member of three winning relays: the 400 freestyle, 400 medley and the 200 medley relays.
