Kimmie Hicks scored all eight of her points in the fourth quarter on Wednesday morning for the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team, but Bryant University held on to their lead for a 63-54 non-conference win.
Hicks scored on a driving layup with 3:49 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut the Bulldogs (5-5 overall) lead down to eleven points. Hicks continued to attack, scoring on the ensuing two possessions, followed by a
Lex Therien layup to cut their deficit down to nine points but the Greyhounds (4-4 overall) could not cut any further into the Bulldogs lead.
Kelly Ratigan and
Lex Therien got the scoring started in the second half for Loyola, as they both scored on the first two shots of the second half for the Greyhounds. Loyola's defense stepped up to start the second half, as they held the Bulldogs to without a point in the first five minutes of the third quarter.
Ava Therien led the charge for the Greyhounds, scoring six of their eight points over the final five minutes of the third quarter, as they cut the Bulldogs lead down to ten points heading into the fourth quarter.
Lex Therien led the Greyhounds with 17 points and 7 rebounds in the game, while
Ava Therien added 11 points.
Kelly Ratigan added 11 points, while
Kimmie Hicks scored a career-high 8 points off the bench. Laura Salmeron had a career best 4 assists in the game.
Mariona Planes Fortuny led the Bulldogs with 20 points on the day.
The Greyhounds will be back on the road on Sunday, as they will travel to face off against Toledo for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
