Deon Perry scored 27 points to lead four Loyola University Maryland players in double figures on Wednesday as the Greyhounds had their second 90-point game in two weeks with a 90-68 victory over visiting College of the Holy Cross.
Loyola raced out to a 55-39 halftime lead, scoring the most points in a half since it had 56 in the second half on November 13, 2018, against Delaware State University.
Perry now has four games of 20 or more during the last 13 games, all Patriot League outings. He has raised his scoring average from 6.9 on January 8 after the first time Loyola and Holy Cross played to 10.8 after tonight's game.
He leads Loyola with 13.1 points per game during Patriot League play.
The Greyhounds the opened the second half on a 16-3 run to lead 71-42 on an
Alonso Faure dunk 6:10 into the period, pushing the margin to its largest point at 29.
Faure had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while
Jaylin Andrews scored 17 and
Kenneth Jones added 12.
Golden Dike nearly had the second double-double in Greyhounds' history, scoring eight points to go with 11 rebounds and a career-high eight assists.
Holy Cross got its deficit back to 20, 73-53, with 11 of the next 13 points, but Perry hit two of his career-high-tying six 3-pointers and had eight points in a row for the Greyhounds. He stretched the lead back to 25, 81-56, with his second three of the series at 7:01.
Loyola led by just a point, 18-17, after a Gerrale Gates basket 5:48 into the game, but Loyola used a 13-0 run to break open a 31-17 lead less than five minutes later. The Crusaders would get the Greyhounds lead back under 10 on a Gates layup at 2:13, but Andrews converted a traditional 3-point play, Faure knocked down a three, and Jones hit two free throws to give Loyola the last eight points of the first half.
Joe Octave led Holy Cross with 19 points.
Loyola held Gates, the Patriot League's leading scorer (15.9 points) and rebounder (8.5) entering on the night, to 10 points and four rebounds.
The Greyhounds wrap up the regular-season at home on Saturday, February 25, with a 5 p.m. game against American University.
