Kelly Ratigan knocked down a three-pointer with 2:38 left in the fourth quarter, as the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team cut their deficit down to six points late in the fourth quarter. The Greyhounds fourth quarter rally fell short as American went on to win 67-59.
Ivy Bales hit a jumper for the Eagles as they took their largest lead of the game with 5:47 left in the fourth quarter. Over the next 4:44 of game time, the Greyhounds went on an 7-0 run to cut their deficit down to six points.
Kelly Ratigan had five of the seven Greyhounds points during the run.
The Greyhounds could not chip farther into the Eagles led over the last 2:38 of the game, as the Eagles outscored the 7-5 to end the game, with all seven points coming from the foul line.
Lex Therien finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds for her 17th double-double of the season. Therien has had double-digit rebounds in nine of her last ten games.
Kelly Ratigan scored all 13 of her points in the second half, including three three-pointers.
Taleah Dixon finished the game with 12 points.
Ratigan found Therien on a cut to the basket to cut the Greyhounds deficit down to 43-38 with 5:46 left in the third quarter. Therien's basket started a Greyhounds 8-0 run over the next 2:34 of game time, as they took an 44-43 lead. The Eagles responded with an 11-0 run of their own that carried into the fourth quarter to retake the lead.
The Greyhounds started the game hot, as Dixon knocked down a three-pointer on the first possession, followed by a Therien layup to take a quick 5-0 lead.
With todays results in the Patriot League, the Greyhounds are now locked into the 9th seed in the Patriot League Championships.
The Greyhounds will close out the regular season on Wednesday as they host Colgate at 7:00 PM in Reitz Arena.
