DURHAM, N.C. – Fourth-ranked Duke University jumped out to a 5-0 lead that it turned into a 14-2 advantage at halftime, and while No. 7 Loyola University Maryland outscored the Blue Devils, 7-3, in the second half, the Blue Devils scored a 17-9 decision Friday night at Koskinen Stadium.
Davis Lindsey matched his career-high for the second week in a row with three goals, and
Matthew Minicus scored twice for the Greyhounds.
Garrett Leadmon, Owen Caputo and Will Frisoli all scored in the game's first three mintues as the Blue Devils (6-1) led 3-0 with 12:33 to play in the opening frame. Leadmon added his second, and Dyson Williams tallied a goal at 7:19 before Lindsey scored his first of the night to put the Greyhounds on the board with 6:18 remaining.
Joey Kamish scored with six scored to go in the first quarter off a Lindsey feed, but that was the last Loyola (4-2) goal until the second half as Duke score seven in a row.
Leadmon put the Blue Devils ahead 15-2 with the second half's first goal, but
Henry Haberman got through traffic to score at 12:44.
Fellow freshman
Matthew Minicus added back-to-back unassisted goals for the Greyhounds at 10:07 and 7:05.
Lindsey scored twice following that, and
Mustang Sally tallied his third of the year off a
Payton Rezanka feed in transition.
Adam Poitras finished the Loyola scoring by using a pick below goal-line for separation to score in the fourth quarter.
Luke Staudt finished with 14 saves in goal for the Greyhounds, his sixth game this year with 10 or more.
Loyola continues its swing away from home next weekend when it heads to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, for a 4 p.m. game on Saturday, March 18, at Bucknell University.
