Matt Cardano scored a super-tiebreaker win in the No. 1 singles match on Monday, but Villanova University came away with a 6-1 men's tennis win over the Greyhounds at the McClure Tennis Center.
Cardano came back from a 4-6 first-set loss to best Josh Robinsin by the same score in the second. Cardano then outlasted Robinson for a 10-4 win in the super-tiebreaker third.
Dylan Koziol pushed Eitan Khromchenko to the max in the fourth flight, but the Villanova player won, 5-7, 6-4, (10-8). Tighe Brunetti beat
Oliver Davey, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, and Cooper Gordon scored a win by the same margins over
Nick Lawliss at No. 3.
Ryan Nguyen defeated
Trevor Girandola, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 5, and Trey Fourticq was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over
Jorge Quintana at No. 6.
In doubles play, Lukas Choi and Justin Suarez beat Cardano and Davey, 6-2, at No. 1, and Fourticq and Brunetti topped Lawliss and Koziol, 6-0, at No. 2. Robinson and Gordon completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory over Quintana and
Gilberto Rivera-Gordillo.
