WEST POINT, N.Y. – Five-straight goals by Army West Point spread front the second through fourth quarters gave the Black Knights a cushion that Loyola University Maryland could not overcome, and Army West Point came away with a 10-5 Patriot League victory.
Adam Poitras tied the game for Loyola with a ground ball-and-goal sequence off a saved shot, knotting the game at 4-4 with 11:43 left in the second quarter.
The 13
th-ranked Black Knights, however, scored with 8:17 left in the second on a Jacob Morin goal, kicking off the 5-0 run.
He would score again on extra-man with 37 seconds left in the half, sending Army West Point to the locker room with a 6-4 lead at the break.
Paul Johnson and Reese Burek would score in the third quarter, and Bailey O'Connor converted from the top of the offense with 11:13 in the fourth, and it was a 9-4 Black Knights' lead.
The Greyhounds got one in transition less than two minutes later as
Payton Rezanka had one of his four caused turnovers. He cleared it to the offensive end and threw it to
Mustang Sally who found
Davis Lindsey coming from 'X' for a goal at 9:26.
That would be the Greyhounds' last, however, and Army West Point added another late in the quarter.
Sally added the first goal of the day for Loyola with a behind-the-back shot on the run to close a transition for the Greyhounds.
Matthew Minicus had a goal and an assist, and
Joey Kamish added Loyola's other goal.
Luke Staudt made 12 saves in goal for Loyola, nine in the second half.
Loyola returns to Ridley Athletic Complex after closing this three-game road trip, for a 3:30 p.m. contest against College of the Holy Cross on Saturday, April 1.
