BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's
Payton Rezanka was named a Second Team Midseason All-American by
Inside Lacrosse on Friday, and he was joined by three of his teammates who were also honored.
Mustang Sally,
Luke Staudt and
Cam Wyers were named to the Midseason All-American Honorable Mention list, giving the Greyhounds four defenders who were recognized.
Rezanka is coming off statistically his best game of the season, a March 25 contest at Army West Point in which he had five caused turnovers for the Greyhounds to bring his season total to 13. He also has four assists in transition and has picked up 10 ground balls through eight games. His 13 caused turnovers are the most by a short-stick defensive midfielder in NCAA Division I this year.
Sally is the other half of the Greyhounds starting short-stick defensive midfield rotation, and he has been highly effective on the defensive end of the field while also scoring four goals and assisting on another in transition. A transfer to the Loyola program in January 2022, Sally is in his second year with the Greyhounds, and he has eight caused turnovers and eight ground balls in addition to his offensive stats.
Wyers has continued to be one of the top cover defenders in the nation this year. A three-time All-American, he has 14 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers on defense for the Greyhounds, and he scored a goal at Bucknell.
One of the breakout players nationally this season, Staudt emerged as the Greyhounds starter in goal and has opened all eight games for the Greyhounds. He has played more than 470 minutes between the pipes and has a 10.46 goals-against average and a .573 save percentage. His save percentage ranks seventh in the nation.
The Greyhounds will be back on the field at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, when they host College of the Holy Cross in a Greyhounds-Crusaders doubleheader with the schools' women's teams preceding at 12 noon at Ridley Athletic Complex.
