Lex Therien scored on a layup off of an assist from
Devyne Newman with 9:32 left in the third quarter to take a 28-27 lead. The Greyhounds led the rest of the way, as the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team went on to beat Lafayette 61-52 in the first round of the Patriot League Championships.
Abby Antognoli scored on a layup for the Leopards as they cut their deficit down to two points with 8:24 left in the fourth quarter. Coming out of a timeout,
Bri Rozzi knocked down a three-pointer to retake a five point lead. The Leopards once again cut their deficit down to two points with 3:15 remaining, but the Greyhounds responded with a 12-5 run over the last 2:47 of game time to secure the win.
Devyne Newman scored a career-high 17 points in the win, while adding three rebounds and three assists.
Lex Therien scored 17 points and tallied a career-high 21 rebounds. Therien broke the single season record of total rebounds and defensive rebounds in the Greyhounds win.
Taleah Dixon added 12 points on the night, while
Kelly Ratigan had 10 points.
Bri Rozzi added five assists in the game.
Newman started the game strong for the Greyhounds, knocking down her first six shots, which included a three-pointer to begin the second quarter to take a 20-12 lead. Newman had 13 of her 17 points in the first half.
The win is the Greyhounds first Patriot League tournament win since the 2018-19 season when they defeated Navy in the first round.
The Greyhounds will play #1 seed Boston on Monday at 6:00 PM.
