Baltimore, MD -- The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team scored the first 13 goals of the game on Saturday evening in their matchup against Lafayette Collegeand went on to win 14-1 to improve to 14-2 overall and 8-0 in the Patriot League. With the Greyhounds win and Navy's loss to Army, the Greyhounds clinched the No. 1 Seed in the Patriot League Championships.
With a first quarter draw control,
Jillian Wilson passed Taylor VanThof to become the Loyola single-season draw control leader. After today's game, Wilson is now at 155 draw controls this season.
The Greyhounds (14-2 overall) continued their hot scoring as of late, as they scored seven goals in the first quarter.
Georgia Latch also continued her strong play, as Latch tallied four goals in the first quarter.
Sydni Black also had a strong first quarter, scoring two goals, while
Emily Wills tallied a goal and two assists in the quarter.
The scoring continued in the second quarter, as Wills started the scoring with 13:38 left in the second quarter, thanks to a Latch assist. Wills and Black added goals in the second quarter, as they joined Latch with a hat-trick in the first half.
Despite the high scoring half, the Greyhounds pace slowed in the second half, as they scored just one goal in the half. The Leopards (2-14 overall) goalie, Lexie Coldiron, was a big cause of this, as she tallied 9 saves in the second half.
Alanna Wray scored the lone Greyhounds goal in the second half.
Georgia Latch led the way for the Greyhounds, as she had six points on the day from four goals and two assists.
Emily Wills had three goals and two assists on the day, while
Sydni Black had three goals and one assist.
Jillian Wilson also tallied two goals and one assist on the day.
Lauren Spence tallied five saves in the game, while
Makenzie Butler also recorded a save.
The Greyhounds controlled possession today, as they won the draw control battle 15-4 on the day.
Jillian Wilson tallied 11 draw controls, while
Sydni Black and
Katie Detwiler each had two.
Sara Rogers scored the lone goal for the Leopards. Lexie Coldiron had 14 saves on the day.
The Greyhounds will close out the season next Saturday, as they travel to face Navy at 6:00 PM.
