Heuston Named To Team Australia For 2023 World Championships

SAN DIEGO – Loyola University Maryland midfielder Matt Heuston has been selected to play for Team Australia at the 2023 World Men's Lacrosse Championships this summer in San Diego.

Heuston, whose father, Tim, is Australian by birth and was a rugby union player there before moving to the United States, will wear the green and gold when the Aussies play in the top pool of competition against teams from the United States, Canada, the Haudenosaunee and England beginning on June 22.

He will compete against Loyola Head Coach Charley Toomey who is an assistant coach for Team USA. Heuston will also match up against his former teammate, Cam Wyers, who recently concluded his career and is slated to play for the Canadian National Team at the Championships.

Heuston, who graduated from Hempfield High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, before coming to Loyola in 2019-2020, saw action in the last 10 games of this season after returning from an early injury.

He tied his career-high with six goals out of the Greyhounds' midfield while starting on the first unit in five games. Heuston also had three assists for nine goals. In 32 career games, Heuston has scored 13 goals and has eight assists for Loyola.

This year, he posted a goal and an assist against both Holy Cross and Colgate before going for two goals in the Patriot League Championship Game against Army West Point. He picked up a career-best four ground balls at Lehigh, and he had caused turnovers on the ride in four of Loyola's last five games.

He will graduate with his Bachelor of Business Administration in information systems next week and plans to return to Loyola to pursue an interdisciplinary Master of Business Administration next year.
