Bethlehem, Pa -- Loyola University Maryland's
Katie Detwiler was named the Patriot League women's lacrosse scholar athlete of the year, as
Logan Olmstead and
Sydni Black joined her on the Academic All-Patriot League team.
Detwiler, a graduate student from Devon, Pennsylvania, is working towards her MBA in Emerging Media and has a near perfect GPA, as she boasts a 3.953 GPA. She becomes the fifth Greyhound to be named the scholar athlete since joining the Patriot League, and the seventh time a Greyhound as earned the honor.
Detwiler has anchored the Greyhounds defense this season, leading the second-best scoring defense in the NCAA. She has recorded two goals, nine ground balls, 15 caused turnovers and 68 draw controls on the season.
With three Defensive Player of the Week awards this season, she broke the record for most weekly awards in a career, 14 times, in the Patriot League. Detwiler has also been named as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year for three straight seasons, and has earned All-League honors four-times in her career.
Detwiler has made the deans list every semester since the Fall 2019 semester. This is also her third time being named to the Academic All-Patriot League team.
Olmstead, a senior from Painted Post, NY, is double-majoring in Biology and Psychology. Olmstead has accumulated several academic honors during her time at Loyola, including being named to the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society, Loyola University Maryland's Green and Grey Society, Chi Alpha Sigma, and Theta Alpha Kappa.
She also is a Peer Mentor with the Togetherall Trained Peers Program, and a member of the Student Athletes for Social Justice.
On the field, Olmstead has started all 17 games this season, and has played a crucial roll in the Greyhounds second ranked scoring defense. She has tallied nine ground balls and 11 caused turnovers on the year.
Black, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, is a double-major in Business Management and Information Systems Data Analytics. She was named as the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award winner for women's lacrosse. Black is also a member of Loyola University Maryland's Green and Grey society, Diversity Advisory Board, Loyola Black Student Athlete Coalition, and Co-President for Student Athletes for Social Justice. She was also named as a Presidential Scholar and been named on the dean's list.
On the field, Black scored a career-high 41goals and 22 assists in 16 games this season. She has a .494 shooting percentage on the year, to go along with 14 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers, and 31 draw controls. Black was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, and has scored at least three points in 14 of the last 15 games for the Greyhounds.
