BALTIMORE -- The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team hosted the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on Thursday night, and junior midfielder
Elizabeth Gallagher scored a goal in her second straight game, as the Greyhounds controlled the tempo from start to finish to pick up their second win, 3-0.
The Greyhounds (2-1 overall) controlled the pace in the first half, as they held the Blue Raiders without a shot.. Despite the Greyhounds tallying six shots in the first 40 minutes of the game, they could not find the back of the net until
Alex Searing drew a penalty in the box in the 42nd minute, and
Elizabeth Gallagher stepped up and nailed the penalty kick to take a 1-0 first half lead.
In the second half, the Greyhounds did not waste much time adding to their lead.
Chloe Kuminkoski flicked the ball into the box, where
Baylee DeSmit was able to settle it and find the far post for her second goal of the season at the 48:18 mark.
The Greyhounds didn't stop there, as Searing was able to get her head on a corner from DeSmit to send a shot past the keeper for her first goal of the season.
With a 3-0 lead, the Greyhounds maintained the majority of possession for the remainder of the game, but the Blue Raiders had a chance to get on the board as they drew a penalty with 68:29 left in the game. Caroline Manley stepped up for the penalty shot for the Blue Raiders, but
Paige Sim made a diving save to her left, and managed to get back to her feet and make another save on the rebound to maintain the Greyhounds shutout, as they went on to win 3-0.
Gallagher, DeSmit, and Searing each had a goal on the day, while Kuminkoski and DeSmit added assists. Sim had two saves on three shots faced.
Hannah Suder had 4 saves in goal for the Blue Raiders.
The Greyhounds will be back on the road, as they will travel to face off against Columbia University on Sunday for a non-conference matchup.
