Baltimore --
Baylee DeSmit scored a goal in both halves for Loyola University Maryland on Sunday afternoon, as the Greyhounds moved to 5-0 at home with a 3-1 win over Longwood University.
The Greyhounds (5-2 overall) got things going early, as
Delaney DeMartino had a shot go just high of the in the second minute. DeMartino would stay busy, as she was able to chase down a
Elizabeth Gallagher pass and fire a shot past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.
The Lancers (1-4-2 overall) responded quickly however, as Julia Gill was able to get on the end of a long pass from Brooke Bonner to tie things up in the 15th minute. The Greyhounds stayed on the offensive, as they recorded four shots over the next five minutes, but the Lancers Mary Kate Levush kept the Greyhounds out of the net. That is until the 33rd minute, where a pair of great passes from
Payton Hurley and
Asma Merzougui led to
Baylee DeSmit being open in front of goal, where she buried it in the bottom right corner for the goal.
To start of the second half, the Greyhounds stayed aggressive on the offensive end, as they recorded four shots within the first six minutes of the half, but could not find the back of the net. In the 66th minute, the Greyhounds would add another goal, after
Kelly Hutton crossed the ball into the box, where
Chloe Kuminkoski would lay it off for
Baylee DeSmit, who would bury her second goal of the game. From there, the Greyhounds held the Lancers to just one shot in the second half, as they won 3-1.
Paige Sim had two saves on the afternoon.
The Greyhounds will begin conference play this week, as the Greyhounds will open Patriot League play on the road, as they will travel to play Boston on Saturday.
