Boston --
Chloe Kuminkoski scored her first career goal in the 15th minute for Loyola University Maryland on Saturday afternoon, as the Greyhounds won their Patriot League opener, 1-0, over Boston University.
The Terriers (3-4-2 overall) applied the pressure early and had three shots within the first 10 minutes of game time. The Greyhounds (6-2 overall) managed to hit the Terriers on the counter attack, though, when
Baylee DeSmit sent a long pass over the Terriers defense for
Chloe Kuminkoski. She finished past the goalkeeper, and the Greyhounds took an early lead.
The Terriers had two shots over the next eight minutes, but that would be all of the Boston University attempts before halftime.
Loyola goalkeeper
Paige Sim made her second of two saves in the 66th minute, stopping an attempt by Natalie Godoy to keep the Greyhounds in front.
Alex Searing then blocked a Godoy shot in the 86th minute to preserve the shutout. Sim finished with her fifth clean sheet of the season in goal.
Loyola continues Patriot League action against Navy on Wednesday, September 20, with its first home game of the conference slate at Ridley Athletic Complex.
