Hamilton, NY --
Sean McEvoy found
Thomas Gray on a free kick to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute against Colgate University, and
Grayson Parks added another in the 90th minute, as the Greyhounds completed their second straight shutout for a 2-0 win against the Raiders.
"Team win, the boys showed a lot of resilience playing without 4 or 5 key players today," said Head Coach
Steve Nichols. "We've shown most of the year we are very good with our quality of play but at some point you need to get results."
The Greyhounds (1-1-6 overall, 1-0-1 Patriot League) controlled the momentum in the first half, out-shooting the Raiders (3-5 overall, 1-1 Patriot League), 5-1. Despite four shots on goal in the first, the Greyhounds could not find the back of the net, and it was tied 0-0 at halftime.
After a pair of corner kicks and a shot on goal in the first 15 minutes of the second half, the score was still 0-0. In the 64th minute, after the Greyhounds drew a foul in their attacking third,
Sean McEvoy crossed in the ball to the back post, where a sprinting
Thomas Gray found his way to the ball, shot and scored to give the Greyhounds the 1-0 lead.
Over the next 27 minutes of game time, the Greyhounds held the Raiders to without a shot until there was 10 seconds remaining in the game.
As the Raiders were pressing late in the game, the Greyhounds counterattacked.
Charlie Herley got past a Raiders defender and passed the ball across the box for
Grayson Parks. His shot was tipped by the goalkeeper, but went across the line in for his first career goal to give the Greyhounds the 2-0 lead.
Overall, Loyola held a 12-4 advantage in shots, with eight of them coming on goal. They also held an 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Dylan Van der Walt had two saves, as he recorded his second straight clean sheet.
The Greyhounds will continue conference play on Wednesday, as they will travel to face off against Bucknell at 7:00 PM.
