Sean McEvoy scored his first collegiate goal on Tuesday night, to give Loyola University Marylan its equalizer late in the second half, and the Greyhounds played to a 1-1 draw against NJIT at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Highlanders (1-2-1 overall) scored their lone goal in the 18th minute, as Hugo Tavares' shot took a deflection off of a Loyola defender and into the net. Neither team could find much momentum for the remainder of the first half, as the Highlanders out shot the Greyhounds (0-1-3 overall) 3-2 before halftime.
To start the second half,
Danilo Seglio and
Jahvar Stephenson had shots for the Greyhounds, but neither were on frame. Seglio had another attempt 15 minutes later, but was saved by the Highlanders' Samuel Reisgys.
Five minutes later, the Highlanders had three rapid shots, but
Dylan Van der Walt saved the first, followed by a goal line save by
Brandon Meminger, before
Thomas Gray cleared the ball.
The Greyhounds would get on the board less than two minutes later, as
Jordy Luchies sent a ball into the box, were
Sean McEvoy headed it towards goal. The shot was initially saved by Resigys, but McEvoy put in the rebound for his first career goal, to even up the score 1-1.
Van der Walt came up big again in the 80th minute, saving another Highlander shot, as the Greyhounds battled to a 1-1 draw.
NJIT held an 8-7 advantage in shots during the game, while Van der Walt had a game-high three saves.
The Greyhounds will host Princeton University on Friday night at 7:00 PM.
