BALTIMORE –
Alonso Faure scored in the paint with 2:28 left in halftime to create a 26-26 tie, but Lafayette College scored the final two points of the first half and 31 of the first 37 in the second to go on to a 70-44 Patriot League victory in Reitz Arena.
Eric Sondberg made a driving layup 30 seconds after Faure's basket to put the Leopards in front, 28-26, and Luka Savicevic scored with two ticks left in the half for a 30-26 Lafayette lead at the break.
The Leopards then scored the first six points of the second half for the first double-digit lead by either team in the game, 36-26, before a Faure hook shot brought the margin back to eight. Lafayette, however scored seven in a row, and after a
David Brown III pull-up jumper, the Leopards went for nine-straight to break open a 54-30 advantage with 9:49 left in regulation.
Deon Perry scored 14 of his game-high 18 points in the first half for Loyola, and Faure finished with 12.
Milos Ilic led all players with 10 rebounds.
Sondberg tallied 14 for Lafayette, and Kyle Jenkins added 13.
The Greyhounds start a two-game road trip on Saturday, January 27, when they play a 1 p.m. game at the U.S. Naval Academy.
