Easton – Laura Salmeron had a game-high 21 points, with 8 coming in the fourth quarter for Loyola University Maryland, as they overcame a double-digit first half deficit to Lafayette College, as the Greyhounds won 67-60.
Lex Therien knocked down a jump shot with 8:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Greyhounds (8-10 overall, 3-4 Patriot League) trailed 49-46. This started a Loyola run, as the Greyhounds outscored the Leopards (6-12 overall, 1-6 Patriot League) 19-4 over the next 6:24 of game time.
During the Greyhounds run, their full court press caused issues for the Leopards, as they forced 11 turnovers in the quarter, which led to 19 points off those turnovers.
Lafayette attempted a late rally in the fourth quarter, as they drew to within three points with 38 seconds remaining, but Loyola was able to close out the game from the foul line and on the defensive end.
Salmeron and
Meliah Van-Otoo led the way in the fourth quarter, as they scored 8 and 7 points respectively in the fourth.
In the third quarter,
Kimmie Hicks scored on a layup with 6:02 remaining to cut the Greyhounds deficit to 41-32. Hicks' bucket kickstarted the Greyhounds as they closed out the third quarter on a 14-5 run, as they trailed 46-44 heading into the fourth quarter.
Salmeron finished with a game and career-high 21 points on the night, going 4-4 from three point range.
Lex Therien had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists on the night.
Meliah Van-Otoo tied a career-high with 13 points, while posting a career-best 4 assists and six steals. Hicks finished with a career-high 5 steals.
Lafayette's Makayla Andrews finished with a team-high 18 points, while Abby Antognoli finished with 16 points.
The Greyhounds will be back at home on Saturday, as they will host Navy at 5:00 pm for their annual Play4Kay game.
