Ava Therien scored 9 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter for the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Greyhounds used a 15-2 run in the fourth quarter to down the Naval Academy, 70-67, in a Patriot League matchup.
With 26 points in the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds set a new program record for most points in any quarter.
Loyola's defense stepped up in the forth quarter, as they gave the Midshipmen (6-13 overall, 2-6 Patriot League) troubles, as their full court defense forced seven turnovers in the fourth quarter. The momentum shifted in Loyola's favor around the four minute mark, as after a

Ava Therien scored seven points over a 1:22 stretch of the fourth quarter for the Greyhounds (9-10 overall, 4-4 Patriot League), as they took their first lead of the game with 3:25 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Following a pair of
Lex Therien free throws, Navy knocked down a three to trim their deficit down to three points with 42 seconds remaining. Loyola was able to get a pair of stops, as they were able to ice the game down the stretch and hold on to the win.
After a pair of Navy jumpers to start the third quarter, Loyola's offense came alive, as they went on a 9-3 run to cut their deficit down to four points.
Kimmie Hicks stepped up big for the Greyhounds in the third quarter, as she scored 12 of her 16 points in the third quarter. They continued to chip into the Navy lead down the stretch of the third quarter, as they trailed by just four points heading into the fourth quarter.
Navy started the game on a 10-0 run, making 4 of their first 6 shots to jump out to an early lead. After a Loyola timeout,
Kelly Ratigan knocked down a three-pointer to get the Greyhounds on the board. The Greyhounds could not overcome the deficit over the remainder of the first half, as the closest they trailed by was 8 points, as they went in to halftime down 32-24.
Four players were in double figures for the Greyhounds, led by
Kimmie Hicks who tied a career-high with 16 points.
Ava Therien had 13 points on the day, while
Lex Therien and Laura Salmeron each had 12 points on the afternoon.
Lex Therien posted her 11th double-double of the season, tallying a team-high 8 rebounds. Therien and Salmeron led the team with 4 assists each.
Kyah Smith finished with a game-high 19 points for the Midshipmen, as they had four starters in double-figures. The Greyhounds bench outscored the Midshipmen's bench 13-0 on the afternoon.
The Greyhounds will cap off their two-game homestand on Wednesday, when they host Bucknell at 7:00 PM.
