Baltimore -- The Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team had a late change to tie the game against visiting Bucknell University, but a late Bison steal sealed their 61-59 win road win in Patriot League play.
Kelly Ratigan knocked down a three-point field goal with 3:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Greyhounds (9-11 overall, 4-5 Patriot League) took the lead, 57-54. The Bison (6-14 overall, 3-6 Patriot League) responded on the next possession with a three-pointer of their own.
Lex Therien on the ensuing possession scored on a layup to retake the lead. The Bison responded once again with another three-pointer, as they went on to hold Loyola scoreless over the final 2:23 of the fourth quarter, as they held on for their third Patriot League win of the season.
Both teams traded baskets to begin the fourth quarter, as neither team could pull ahead, as the game was tied on four separate occasions in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter.
After leading at halftime,
Meliah Van-Otoo started Loyola out with a falling layup to start the second half. The Bison responded with a 7-0 run to retake the lead, 34-31 with 7:28 remaining. Ratigan knocked down a pull-up jump shot with 5:00 minutes remaining to tie the game at 39-39. Both teams traded baskets to end the third quarter, as the Bison led by one entering the fourth quarter.
Kelly Ratigan had a team-high 16 points on the night.
Lex Therien had another double-double, tallying 14 points and 17 rebounds. Laura Salmeron had 12 points, while
Cristina Garcia had a team-high 4 assists.
Ashley Sofilkanich and Emma Theodorsson led the way for the Bison, scoring 19 and 18 points respectively.
The Greyhounds will begin the second half of Patriot League play on Saturday, as they travel to face Holy Cross at 2:00 PM.
