Kimmie Hicks scored a team high 15 points off the bench for the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Greyhounds went on to win over the College of the Holy Cross, 60-47, in a Patriot League matchup.
With the win, the Greyhounds earn their fourth road Patriot League win of the season.
The Greyhounds (10-11 overall, 5-5 Patriot League) came out of halftime with a 32-27 lead. After the Crusaders (14-7 overall, 8-2 Patriot League) scored the first basket of the second half, Loyola's defense came up big in the remainder of the quarter, as they went on a 11-2 run over the remainder of the quarter to extend their lead. Over their 11-2 run, Loyola held Holy Cross to just 1-12 shooting, with their lone basket coming with 24 seconds left in the quarter.
Lily Bottomley capped off the big third quarter with her first career three-pointer, thanks to an assist from Laura Salmeron.
Kimmie Hicks scored off of a offensive rebound with 4:59 remaining in the fourth quarter, to take their biggest lead of the day, 54-36.
Holy Cross got their deficit down to 54-44 with 3:29 remaining after a Bronagh Power-Cassidy layup, but could not trim their deficit any farther, as Loyola secured the win from the foul line.
To begin the game, the Crusaders jumped out to a early 6-3 lead. The Greyhounds responded with a 8-0 run to take an 11-6 lead halfway through the quarter.
Kimmie Hicks scored on three straight possessions for the Greyhounds, as she had 6 of her 15 points in the first quarter, as the Greyhounds led 18-12 after the first quarter.
Hicks had a team-high 15 points on the afternoon, to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Lex Therien had 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Laura Salmeron had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Meliah Van-Otoo added 11 points on the day.
Bronagh Power-Cassidy had a game-high 17 points, while Janelle Allen had 16 points to lead the Crusaders.
Loyola held Holy Cross to their fewest points in Patriot League play (47), second fewest points all season (44 vs Vermont), and their worst field goal percentage this season (28.6%).
The Greyhounds will be back in action next Saturday, when they travel to face Colgate on Saturday, February 10, at 2:00 PM.
