Annapolis --
Caden Stafford scored a brace for the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, but a second half rally from the Naval Academy downed the Greyhounds, 3-2, in a Patriot League matchup.
Stafford scored the opening goal for the Greyhounds (1-6-3 overall, 1-2-1 Patriot League) on Saturday afternoon, as
Chris Ogor's cross into the box found Stafford, who headed it into the near post, as Loyola took the first half lead in the 39th minute.
Navy had their best look of the day early in the second half, but a
Dylan Van der Walt diving kick save kept the Midshipmen (3-4-4 overall, 2-1-1 Patriot League) off the scoreboard.
Stafford would add his second goal in the 73rd minute, as he found his space and fired the shot into the bottom right corner for the goal.
From there, however, Navy began their rally, as they scored just 90 seconds later, as AJ Schuetz scored for Navy. They followed it up with another goal two minutes later, as Jalen Grant scored off of a corner for the goal.
Navy would score the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute, as Andrew Schug chipped in a loose ball in the box for the goal. Loyola would press over the next few minutes of game time, but could not find a late equalizer, as they lost 3-2.
Stafford scored his second and third goals of the season, while
Chris Ogor and
Jahvar Stephenson added assists on the afternoon.
Loyola will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to face St. John's.
