West Point -- The Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals on Friday night, but a late goal from Army West Point drew the score even, as the teams battled to a 2-2 tie.
The Black Knights (4-10-2 overall, 1-6-1 Patriot League) scored the opening goal just three minutes into the game, as a cross to the far post found Jack Kryger, who headed in the ball for the goal.Â
Sean McEvoy scored a beauty of a goal just 13 minutes later, as his inside the foot shot curled into the near post, as the score was tied up 1-1. In the 32nd minute, the Greyhounds took the lead, as a McEvoy shot from outside the box drew a diving save, as
Tyler Tucker put away the rebound, as Loyola led 2-1 with 13 minutes remaining in the half. Neither team would add to the lead, as Loyola took the halftime lead.Â
In the second half, both defenses held strong, limiting both teams to limited looks at goal.
Ben Schouten had a pair of good looks at goal for the Greyhounds (4-7-4 overall, 3-3-2 Patriot League) but could not find the back of the net, as they maintained their 2-1 lead.
After drawing a foul in the 80th minute, Army took advantage of the free kick, as their ball into the box found Gage Lyons, who headed in the ball, as Army tied it up late.Â
Loyola had a pair of looks late for the go-ahead goal, but could not convert, as the game finished as a 1-1 tie.Â
Sean McEvoy and
Tyler Tucker scored on the night, while McEvoy and
Pat Kakayira added assists on the night.Â
The Greyhounds will close out the regular season on Tuesday, when they host the Bucknell Bison at 7:00 PM.Â
