Therien's Career-Day Leads Greyhounds to Win Over Visiting Lehigh on Sunday

Baltimore – Lex Therien had a record-setting day on Sunday afternoon for the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team, as Therien's 44 points helped lead the Greyhounds past visiting Lehigh University 93-76 in a Patriot League matchup.

Therien's 44 points set a program-high at the NCAA Division I level, previously held by Patty Stoffey (39 points). Therien also broke the Loyola and Patriot League record for field goals in a game with 21 made field goals.

Therien's 21 made field goals is the most in a game in Division I this season. 44 points is tied with Caitlin Clark for the sixth most points scored in a game this season.

44 points is tied for the second most points scored in Patriot League history, tied with Bucknell's Molly Creamer (2/21/03).

Both teams started the game fast, with both teams only missing one shot each in the first five minutes of game-time. After a Mountain Hawks (14-9 overall, 6-7 Patriot League) three-pointer with 5:27 remaining, the Greyhounds (13-11 overall, 8-5 Patriot League) went on a 14-2 run to end the first quarter, led by Lex Therien with 8 of the 14 points, as Loyola took a 25-20 first quarter lead.

Loyola's offense continued to fire on all cylinders in the second quarter, as Therien scored six quick points early in the second quarter. Kelly Ratigan, Cristina Garcia, and Laura Salmeron added three-pointers mid-way through the second quarter, as another Therien basket with 2:06 remaining gave the Greyhounds a 51-30 lead.

Ratigan capped off the historic second quarter with another three-pointer, as they led 56-39 at halftime.

31 points in the second quarter broke a program record for most points in a quarter, a record that lasted four days, while 56 points at halftime was a program-high for most points in a half.

In the third quarter, Lehigh managed to chip into the Loyola lead, as they held the Greyhounds to just 13 points in the quarter. Lehigh's Colleen McQuillen made a three at the buzzer, as Loyola led 69-58 entering the fourth quarter.

To begin the fourth quarter, Lex Therien took over. Therien scored on each of the first five possessions to begin the fourth quarter, as Loyola used the 10-4 run to retake a 17-point lead.

Laura Salmeron also had a big fourth quarter, scoring three of her eight points in the fourth on a three-pointer with 4:23 remaining, as Loyola led 84-66. Therien added another pair of baskets down the stretch, as she ended the day with 44 points, as Loyola won 93-76.

The 93 points are tied for the third most points scored in a game in program history, and the most points scored since the 1995 season (102 points at Sienna, 2/25/95).

The Greyhounds finished the day 37-58 (63.8%) from the field, which is the best single-game field goal percentage and second most made field goals in program history.

They also had 27 assists in the win, which is the second most in a single-game in program history.

Therien finished with a game-high 44 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Laura Salmeron finished with a career-high 23 points on 7-9 shooting (4-5 from three-point). She also tied a team-high with 6 assists. Kelly Ratigan added four threes on the day, while finishing with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Ava Therien added a career-high 6 assists on the day.

With the win, the Greyhounds are now tied for first place in the Patriot League, as they are tied with Holy Cross and Army, with their last game against the latter coming on March 2.
