Chicago -- It was announced by Chicago Fire FC that goalkeeper Zach Thorton will be inducted into the Club's Hall of Fame, known as the Ring of Fire, on April 27 when the Chicago Fire take on Atlanta United FC.
Thorton, who played for Loyola from 1990-1993, was a member of four MAAC regular season and tournament championship teams while at Loyola. He began his professional career with the Washington Warthogs of the CISL following his playing career at Loyola.
Thorton is one of just three players to be involved with all six of Chicago Fire FC's six major trophies while playing for the club. He will also become the first goalkeeper inducted into the Ring of Fire and the ninth player overall. The Fire acquired Thorton with the 11th pick in the 1997 MLS expansion draft, and was named as the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year following the 1998 season, which was the Fire's inaugural season. He was named as a All-Star in three of his first six seasons with the club ('98,'99,'00). Thorton was also a member of the clubs US Open Cup championship teams in 1998, 2000, and 2003.
