BALTIMORE – Rutgers University scored the game's first three goals and then jumped out to a 7-1 lead on Saturday, as the 17
th-ranked Scarlet Knights went on to a 13-5 non-conference victory at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Ross Scott, Jack Aimone and Tanyr Krummenacher scored in the game's opening 10 minutes for Rutgers with Krummenacher's goal at 5:24 in the first quarter putting the Scarlet Knights ahead 3-0.
Evan James got Loyola on the board 1:24 later when he rolled to his right hand and scored unassisted for the Greyhounds.
Rutgers, however, started a 4-0 run on a Aimone goal with 3:15 left in the first.
Adam Poitras broke that streak with an unassisted goal for Loyola 4:39 into the second quarter, but the Scarlet Knights got the period's last two goals and took a 9-2 lead into halftime.
Shane Knobloch kicked off the second half scoring with a goal at 13:28, and Rutgers eventually extended its lead to 13-2 with another Knobloch goal at 8:17 in the third.
James scored another unassisted goal for Loyola before
Dylan Binney added two for the Greyhounds for the final margin.
James and Binney led the Greyhounds with two goals each, and James had a team-high four ground balls.
Diego Roman caused three turnovers, and
Mustang Sally had two.
Luke Staudt made eight saves for Loyola, and
Max Watkinson added six in the final 24 minutes.
Loyola will be back at Ridley Athletic Complex on Tuesday, February 27, to host Towson University in a 6 o'clock game.
