Golf Has Record Day While Moving Into Second At Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Loyola University Maryland moved into second place with a school-record 22-under par through two days at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club.

The Greyhounds' second round score of 15-under 273 tied for the best of the day at the tournament and is tied for the second-best score to par in school history. Earlier this season, the Greyhounds shot a 16-under 272 at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic in Mexico to set the school record.

Monday's round brought Loyola's 36-hole score to 22-under, breaking the previous record of 20-under from the 2023 Ross Collegiate Classic at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Course.

Loyola is four shots back of tournament-leader North Dakota State heading into Tuesday's final round that will begin at 7:45 a.m.

Two Greyhounds shot 67 or better on Monday with Jackson Roman going 6-under 66 and James Rico posting his best round of 2023-24 with a 5-under 67.

Mike Crowley, meanwhile, birdied his last two holes of the day to finish at 3-under 69 to get into a tie for second individually at 10-under. He is two shots off the lead of Delaware's Arsit Areephun who shot a 7-under 65.

Roman bounced back from bogeys on the third and fourth holes to finish the front nine at 3-under. He birdied six and seven and then made an eagle three at the 545-yard par-5 ninth. He had a clean back nine with three birdies and six pars to finish at 6-under. The 66 matched his collegiate best that he shot in the first two rounds in October's Monterrey Collegiate Classic where he finished tied for third.

Rico was 1-over par Sunday and bogeyed his first hole Monday, but he had six birdies on his next 12 holes to get to 5-under where he would finish his round.

Roman is tied for fifth individually at 8-under, and Rico is tied for 20th at 4-under.

Carlo Pizzano also had an eagle on the ninth hole Monday to highlight his round, in which he shot 1-under 71 to get level for the tournament and into a tie for 50th.

Garrett Kessler, who is playing as an individual, eagled the par-5 second hole and finished 1-over for Monday's round. He is 3-under through 36 holes and tied for 26th. Turner Foster shot 4-over on Monday and is tied for 109th at 11-over.
