Pizzano, Rico Share Patriot League Weekly Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland teammates Carlo Pizzano and James Rico were named co-Patriot League Men's Golfers of the Week on Wednesday, a day after they tied for eighth in the 100-player Ross Collegiate Classic at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club.
 
The duo helped the Greyhounds win the 16-team event in by shooting matching scores of 3-under 213 in the three-round tournament in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
 
Loyola posted a team 10-under par and won by a stroke over Miami University (Ohio), capturing first at the event for the second time in four years.
 
Pizzano shot the Greyhounds best score in Tuesday's final round, carding a 3-under 69 to tie his second-best score of the 2023-24 season.
 
A graduate student from College Park, Maryland, Pizzano rallied from a 1-over 73 in Monday's morning round to shoot 1-under 71 during the afternoon 18; he finished the tournament with a team-best 14 birdies.
 
Rico shot his best round of the event on Monday afternoon, tying for the second round's best score with a 5-under 67, his best 18-hole score of the year.
 
The sophomore from nearby Cary, North Carolina, bookended that round with a pair of 1-over 73s. Rico shot a team-best 8-under on the course's par fives during the week and was second on the team with 13 birdies.
 
Four different Loyola golfers have now won Patriot League weekly awards this season. It is Rico's second this season and third of his career. Pizzano earned the honor for the first time in his career.
