Davey, Cardano Named To Academic All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland seniors Oliver Davey and Matt Cardano were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Men's Tennis Team on Wednesday, capping four year careers where they led the Greyhounds on the court and in the classroom.
 
Davey and Cardano will graduate this month from Loyola.
 
Through the start of the current semester, Davey has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in finance. He received the award for having the highest GPA of a graduating male studene-athlete at Loyola at last week's celebration of the athletics year.
 
He was an Academic All-Patriot League selection last year and has been a seven-time Dean's List member at Loyola. Davey is a member of of Alpha Sigma Nu, Beta Gamma Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Alpha Sigma. He holds Bloomberg Market Concepts and FINRA Securities Industry Essentials certifications.
 
He was a participant in a national 2022 International Business Ethics and Sustainability Case Competition, has been an investment banking summer analyst for Scotiabank, and he was a student investment analyst for the Loyola Angel Investing Fund, participating in managing a $250,000 charitable fund that offers investments into Maryland businesses with a preference for women and entrepreneurs of color.
 
On the court, he primarily played on the No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles lines for Loyola, going 10-17 in doubles and 8-18 at singles this season.
 
Cardano earned Team Most Valuable Player award honors at the end of the season and was also the recipient of Loyola's Anne McCloskey Male Leadership Award, an honor given to one student-athlete who is completing his eligibility and has shown outstanding leadership qualities.
 
He has posted a GPA of higher than 3.89 through the start of the current semester and will graduate with his Bachelor of Science in mathematics secondary education. He is a seven-time Dean's List and has been a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member.
 
Cardano led the Greyhounds in singles wins each of the last four seasons, going 15-10 on the No. 1 line this year while finishing 12-13 in doubles play. He has three 20-win seasons in singles and earlier this week became the second player in program history to be named to the All-Patriot League Second Team.
