Baltimore -- The visiting Iona University Gaels scored two goals in the first 16 minutes of the first half, as they went on to win over the Loyola University Men's soccer team on Thursday night.
Both teams started the game aggressively, as both teams had good looks at goal in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Gaels (1-0-1 overall) got on the board in the 12th minute, as a shot from the side of the box took a unfriendly deflection into the goal.
Iona added a second goal just three minutes later, as the Gaels' Francesco Borla connected on a pass across the box for the goal.
At the 22nd minute mark, the Greyhounds (0-1-1 overall) had one of their best looks of the night, as Charley Herley found
Brandon Meminger, but his shot was saved.
Herley connected on a volley attempt at the 30th minute after a cross into the box, but the attempt went just wide of the goal, as Loyola continued to look to get on the board.
In the second half, both teams split possession and both teams looked to create an offensive chance. Iona had a pair of chances at the 59th minute, but
Dylan Van der Walt came up with a big play out of the box to prevent the score.
Iona had another chance on goal, but Oscar Walls make a big play, as he made a clearance off of a Gaels' shot to keep the deficit at two.
The Greyhounds continued to press on offense, which led to good looks from
Caden Stafford and
Jahvar Stephenson, but Loyola could not find the back of the net as they fell 2-0.
Loyola will be back in action on Monday, as they travel to face #2 Marshall at 1:00 PM.
