Baylee DeSmit scored a brace on Sunday afternoon, as the Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team won 3-1 over the University of Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day.
The Greyhounds (3-2 overall) were aggressive to begin the first half, as they recorded three shots on goal in the first 15 minutes. They finally managed to breakthrough, as
Nele Raap connected on a cross off a corner kick from
Elizabeth Gallagher, as she headed in the shot for the opening goal.
Northern Colorado tied things up just 16 minutes later, as Lauryn Maggio's cross attempt from the side of the box floated into the back of the net as the Bears (0-6 overall) to tie the game up.
The last 14 minutes of the first half were played between the 18's, as they went into halftime 1-1.
Just five minutes into the second half,
Elizabeth Gallagher possessed the ball in the Loyola defensive third, before dribbling it up past midfield, as she played a long pass to
Baylee DeSmit, who ran onto the pass before settling it and shot it to the far post, as the shot curled in to give the Greyhounds the 2-1 lead.
Loyola continued to press down the stretch in the second half, and found their third goal, as
Malia Tarazon settled a Northern Colorado goal kick, as she passed it to
Asma Merzougui, who laid it off to DeSmit, who's left footed shot from the top of the box found the back of the net for her second of the day.
Loyola would hold on over the next 10 minutes of game time, as they won 3-1 for their third won of the season.
DeSmit scored her third and fourth goals of the season, while Raap added her first goal of the season. Gallagher added her first two assists of the season.
Loyola will be back in action next Sunday, as they host Hofstra at 2:00 PM.
