TOWSON, Md. – Loyola University Maryland volleyball won Friday morning's third set to extend its match against host Towson University, but the Tigers held the Greyhounds to a .033 hitting percentage in the fourth to pull away for the win.
Towson claimed the first match of the Tiger Invitational, 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 25-12.
Lauren Link had 16 kills and 11 digs for the Greyhounds, while
Kacy Sekunda added six kills, 11 digs and 12 assists.
After the Tigers took the first two sets, Loyola turned a 7-5 lead in the third into a 19-12 advanrage with a 12-7 run. During that stretch, four different Greyhounds had kills, two had service aces, and
Kennedy Stevens and Sekunda combined for a block.
Towson later got within four, 23-19, with a Victoria Barrett kill, forcing a Loyola timeout, but the Greyhounds scored on two Tigers errors to win the fourth.
Loyola will be back on the court Saturday for two more matches at the Tiger Invitational. It will face Seton Hall at 11 a.m., followed by a 7 p.m. contest against Coppin State.
