Volleyball Closes Non-Conference Play With Sweep Of Eagles

TOWSON, Md. – Loyola University Maryland volleyball split a pair of matches on Saturday including a three-set sweep of Coppin State to close its non-conference schedule.
 
The Greyhounds lost in four in a morning match against Seton Hall at the Tiger Invitational, but Loyola came back to sweep the Eagles on Saturday evening.
 
Loyola 3, Coppin State 0 (28-26, 25-15, 25-20) –
 
The Greyhounds held off a set-point attempt by Coppin State with a kill by Kacy Sekunda in the first set to tie the stanza at 25-25.
 
Mariah Sanabia then had a solo block to put Loyola in front a point, but the Eagles had a kill to even the match again.
 
This time, it was a Riley Hamilton kill that would give Loyola the lead, and a Coppin State attack error closed the opening frame in Loyola's favor.
 
In the second, Loyola closed with a 16-6 run after the set was tied at 9-9. Lauren Link put away seven kills without an error in the frame as part of her match-high 16.
 
Coppin State led the third set 10-8, and the Eagles later took a 15-14 lead before Loyola reeled off seven-straight points to go up 21-15.
 
Morgan Crawford had two of her eight kills in the run as she hit .538 in the match.
 
In addition to Link's 16 and Crawford's eight kills, Sekunda posted 11 kills, 17 assists and six digs.
 
Loyola had 51 digs in the three-set match with six players tallying five or more. Link and Hamilton each had nine, while Bryanne Soares added eight and 21 digs.
 
Seton Hall 3, Loyola 1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23) –
 
Loyola won the opening set, but the Pirates came back to take the win in the next three.
 
Sekunda posted her second double-double of the year and sixth of the season with 15 kills, 18 assists and 14 digs, hitting .314 in the process.
 
Link added 14 kills and a team-high 16 digs, while Soares also had a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs. Morgan Crawford posted nine kills and 11 digs.
 
All-Tournament Honors –
 
Kacy Sekunda was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second time this season after averaging 2.91 kills and hitting .278. She also averaged 4.27 assists and 2.64 digs for the Greyhounds.

Loyola will open its Patriot League schedule on Friday, September 20, with a 7 p.m. home match against Navy in Reitz Arena.
