Boyds -- American University scored a pair of goals in the first half on Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles won the Patriot League opener over the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team.
The Eagles (1-2-3 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) opened the scoring in the 11th minute, as a build up play lead into a cross into the box, as American's Troy Elgersma scored his first goal of the season.
American added another goal just five minutes later, as a cross into the box found Samuel Hershey who found the back of the net.
Loyola had a pair of chances early in the game, as shots from
Caden Stafford and
Richie Nichols forced diving saves from American. The Greyhounds (0-4-2 overall, 0-1 Patriot League) had one of their best looks of the game, as a cross into the box found
Charlie Herley, but his shot went high.
Right before half,
Eddie Smith found himself with a chance at goal, but the Eagles came up with another diving save to keep the Greyhounds scoreless.
In the second half, Loyola continued to press to find the back of the net, as a
Sean McEvoy free kick forced a low diving save, as American held on to win 2-0 over Loyola.
Loyola will be back in action next Saturday as they will host Boston at 3:00 PM.
