Story Links

Baltimore -- Caden Stafford and Ólafur Sigurjónsson scored goals in the second half for the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team, as they rallied to a 2-2 draw against reigning Patriot League champs Boston University on Saturday afternoon in their Patriot League home opener.

Jordy Luchies sent a long cross into the box from just inside the midfield line, as Caden Stafford ran onto the pass and headed the ball into the goal for the Greyhounds (0-4-3 overall, 0-1-1 Patriot League) as they cut their deficit down to 2-1.

Loyola continued their momentum, as they controlled the majority of the possession in the second half and played one of their best halves of soccer on the season, as they outshot the Terriers (1-2-5 overall, 1-0-1 Patriot League) 8-4 in the second half.

In the 78th minute, Ogor sent a cross into the box that found Charlie Herley, who then headed it to Eddie Smith, as Smith sent in a cross into the box that found Sigurjónsson, who's acrobatic kick found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.

Loyola continued to press looking for the go ahead goal, as a Seth Powder ball into the box found Sigurjónsson, who's shot went just wide of the goal, as both teams battled to a 2-2 draw.

To begin the game, Loyola held the momentum over the first 15 minutes, as their aggressive attack found a few looks at goal, but could not find the back of the net. Boston responded in the 17th minute, however, as a shot from Ryan Lau found it's way through a few Loyola defenders for the opening goal of the game.

From there, both teams looked for thier chances on goal, but the game was played in the midfield for the majority of the first half. With just over four minutes remaining, the Terriers managed to add another goal, as a ball into the box found Damola Salami, as Boston took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Stafford and Sigurjónsson scored their first goal of the season, while Ogor, Luchies, Smith, and Herley all picked up their first assist of the season.

Van der Walt had a pair of saves on the night on 8 shots faced.

The Greyhounds will continue non-conference play on Tuesday night, as they will host No. 12 Hofstra at 7:00 PM.
