Amandine Amorich scored a career-high 20 points on Saturday afternoon for the Loyola University Maryalnd women's basketball team, but the Naval Academy ended the game on a 13-0 run to down the visiting Greyhounds in a Patriot League matchup.
Kailey Kalet knocked down a layup with 3:50 remaining in the fourth quarter to extend the Greyhounds (6-9 overall, 0-4 Patriot League) lead to 58-50. Loyola followed it up with a stop on the defensive end, as
Koi Sims knocked down a free throw on the following possession to take a nine-point lead.
On the next two Navy possessions, the Midshipmen (12-3 overall, 4-0 Patriot League) knocked down a pair of free throws, before Zanai Barnett-Gay made a three-pointer to cut their deficit down to four points.
After a pair of missed free throws for the Greyhounds on the following possession, Barnett-Gay connected on two free throws, as Loyola held on to a two-point lead.
Navy continued on their momentum, as they finished the game on a 6-0 run over the final 1:47, to win 63-59.
Amorich finished with 20 points on 8-12 shooting, while adding 6 rebounds, while
Koi Sims had 17 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Laura Salmeron also had 13 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals on the afternoon.
Barnett-Gay had a game-high 28 points on the afternoon for Navy.
Loyola opened the second half on a strong note, opening the half on a 10-2 run, as they took a 40-36 lead. During the run, Amorich accounted for 6 of the Greyhounds 10 points. The Greyhounds continued their momentum during the quarter, as they held Navy to just 8 points, while forcing 7 turnovers in the quarter.
Koi Sims got out to a fast start in the first quarter for the Greyhounds, as she had 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the opening quarter. Salmeron and Amorich each chipped in offensively, as Amorich ended the quarter with a step-back three-pointer, as Loyola led 18-15 after 10 minutes of play.
The Greyhounds return to Reitz Arena on Monday afternoon for the first game of a double-header with the men's basketball team, at 4:00 PM against the American Eagles. The game will be broadcasted on the CBS Sports Network.
