Baltimore -- Lehigh University went on a 16-2 run over the last 4:05 of the fourth quarter on Saturday evening, as the Mountain Hawks downed the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team, 54-43.
Laura Salmeron finished through contact for the layup with 4:05 remaining, as the Greyhounds (7-10 overall, 1-5 Patriot League) extended their lead to 41-38.
Lehigh responded with a three-pointer from Colleen McQuillen, followed by a Maddie Albrecht layup, as the Mountain Hawks (14-4 overall, 5-1 Patriot League) took a 43-41 lead with 3:07 remaining.
On the ensuing Greyhounds possession,
Koi Sims grabbed the offensive rebound off of a Salmeron miss, and made the put back to tie the game at 43-43 with 2:33 remaining.
From there, Lehigh found the momentum, as they made baskets on back-to-back possessions to take a 47-43 lead.
Loyola could not cut into the Lehigh lead, as the Mountain Hawks secured their win from the foul line, as they won 54-43.
Laura Salmeron finished with a game-high 18 points on the evening.
Koi Sims had 14 rebounds, while
Lily Bottomley added six points and three rebounds off of the bench.
The Loyola defense held Lehigh to just 36.5 percent from the field on Saturday evening. They also held them to 20.8 percent from three-point range, including holding them 0-10 on their first 10 three-pointers.
Lehigh was led by Lily Fandre who had 15 points and Maddie Albrecht who had 12 points.
The Greyhounds will hit the road next week for a two-game road trip, as they will travel to face Lafayette on Wednesday and Holy Cross on Saturday.
