WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Loyola Unviersity Maryland women's soccer extended its unbeaten streak in Patriot League play with a commanding 2-0 victory over American on Wednesday afternoon at Reeves Field.

The Greyhounds (4-2-5, 1-0-2 Patriot League) controlled the tempo on both ends of the field, earning their first conference win of the season behind goals from Riley Kennel and Asma Merzougui.

Kennel put Loyola ahead just before halftime in the 42nd minute, converting her second goal of the season as Loyola scored off of a corner kick, as Francesca Khachatourians assisted on the goal. The Greyhounds' backline then withstood sustained pressure before doubling their advantage in the second half.

Merzougui sealed the victory in the 70th minute with her first goal of the year, again assisted by Khachatourians, as Merzougui scored from long distance, as her shot sailed over the Eagles' goalkeeper.

Defensively, Loyola stood tall behind goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer, who recorded eight saves for her third win of the year. Goetzer turned away a flurry of American chances, preserving her fourth clean sheet of the season.

The Greyhounds and Eagles (1-7-3, 1-2-0 Patriot League) finished even in shots at 17 apiece, but Loyola's efficiency in the attacking third made the difference. The Greyhounds also weathered a 6-5 deficit in corner kicks on the afternoon.

With the win, Loyola remains unbeaten on the road and in Patriot League play this season.

Loyola returns home Saturday for another key league matchup, as they will host Bucknell at 1:00 PM.
