Men's Soccer Falls to Hofstra in Non-Conference Finale

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Despite a relentless defensive effort and several promising scoring chances, the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team came up short in a 1–0 road loss to Hofstra on Tuesday night at Captains Field.

The Greyhounds (2–8–1) battled the Pride (8–4–0) for 90 minutes, holding them scoreless for the second half. Loyola's back line, led by defenders Curtis Wagner and Oscar Halls, withstood constant pressure, while goalkeeper Connor O'Keefe made two crucial saves to keep the Greyhounds within striking distance.

Hofstra's lone goal came late in the first half when Pablo Hempelmann-Perez converted a through ball from Laurie Goddard in the 41st minute. From that point on, Loyola tightened its shape and limited the Pride to just four shots in the second half.

On the attack, the Greyhounds nearly found the equalizer several times. Matthew Takawira created Loyola's best first-half opportunity with a shot on frame in the 32nd minute, while Tyler Tucker and Jack Endacott each tested Hofstra keeper Gino Cervoni after halftime. Loyola generated five total shots and earned three corner kicks, pressing until the final whistle.

Loyola returns home to Ridley Athletic Complex for its next match on Saturday, as they host Lafayette at 1:00 PM.
