BALTIMORE — Loyola University Maryland fell to Army West Point on Friday night, 2-0, in a Patriot League matchup.
Despite the final scoreline, Loyola (3-10-2, 2-5-1 Patriot League) matched the Black Knights (6-5-5, 4-3-1) in intensity and possession, holding a slight edge at 51% over the course of the match. The Greyhounds generated eight shots, three of which were on target, and earned five corner kicks, keeping pressure on Army's defense.
Midfielder Richie Nichols led the offensive charge with three shots, two on goal, including a late effort in the 79th minute that forced a diving save from Army goalkeeper Michael Guiry. Jack Endacott and Tyler Flynn also contributed to Loyola's attacking efforts, with Flynn testing Guiry in the 53rd minute.
Defensively, goalkeeper Connor O'Keefe stood tall between the posts, recording three saves and organizing a backline that absorbed Army's pressure, particularly in the second half when Army earned seven of its eight corner kicks.
Army struck first in the 35th minute with an unassisted goal from Eric Lusskin, and added a second in the 63rd minute when Jack De Simone finished a feed from Lusskin. But Loyola's defense, led by Oscar Halls and Kayin Oladinni, held firm the rest of the way, denying further damage.
Loyola will close out the season on Tuesday when they travel to face Bucknell at 6:00 PM.
