Series History

• Loyola and Washington College will meet for the 135th time in series history on Tuesday night..
• The teams first met during the 1915-16 season when Loyola took a 30-15 victory against the Shoremen. Washington College, however, won 15 of the next 18 meetings between the schools who met regularly until the late 1970s as members of the Mason-Dixon Conference.
• The Greyhounds hold an 81-53 lead in the all-time series and have won each of the last 14 games and 33 of the last 36.

Last Time Out

• Twelfth-ranked Kentucky opened the game with a 23-8 lead in the first eight minutes, and the Wildcats went on to an 88-46 victory over visiting Loyola in Rupp Arena on Friday night.
• All five Kentucky players scored in double figures with Collin Chandler and Kam Williams scored 13 each.
• The Wildcats shot 57.1 percent from 3-point range in the second half, knocking down 8 of 14, before ending the game at 37 percent (10 of 27).
• Troy Cicero Jr. led Loyola with seven points, while Jordan Stiemke, Jacob Theodosiou, Emmett Adair and Sebastien Emenalo all scored six.
• Braeden Speed had a team-high six rebounds, and Jonas Sirtautas blocked four shots for the Greyhounds. Adair led the Greyhounds with four assists.

Second Half Sparks

• Through seven games this year, the Greyhounds' offense has been better during the second half of games, averaging 38.9 points to 32.0 in the first half.
• Loyola has shot .475 from the field after the break, compared with .401 in the first.
• On the defensive end, Loyola has limited opponents to 35.9 points after halftime, compared to 38.6 in the opening 20.

Theodosiou's Last Three

• Jacob Theodosiou put together the best pair of games, statistically, in three of Loyola's last four, averaging 23.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals against Stonehill, Fairfield and Duquesne. 
• The junior guard scored 21 last on November 15 against Stonehill before posting 27 the next day versus host Fairfield. He was named Patriot League Player of the Week following those games before scoring 21 against Duquesne on November 19.
• The three games represent the first time in his career that he's scored 20 or more in three-straight games and the first time a Loyola player has done so since Deon Perry did in January 2024.
• He did his scoring in an efficient manner, shooting 58.7 percent from the field and 86.7 percent from the free-throw line. He made 10 field goals in both the Stonehill and Fairfield games. The last time a Loyola player had 10 or more field goals in consecutive games came in the 2020-21 season when current Memphis Grizzlies post Santi Aldama had games with 11 and 13 in consecutive outings.

Emmett's Entrance

• Freshman post player Emmett Adair missed the first five games of Loyola's season with an illness, but he entered the lineup and made his Loyola debut early in the first half November 19 at Duquesne.
• The Australian, who played for his home country's senior national team over the summer in FIBA Asia Cup Qualifying, ended up playing almost 18 minutes against the Dukes, scoring 11 on 4 of 7 from the field and 3 of 5 from 3-point range. He then scored six to go with four rebounds, four assists and a block at No. 12 Kentucky.

Trending Up

• Loyola started the year by shooting 40.8 percent in its first three games of the year, a number that has gone up over its last four. The Greyhounds are now shooting 43.8 percent after hitting 52 percent from the field against Stonehill, Fairfield and Duquesne and just 29.0 at No. 12 Kentucky.
• The Greyhounds' field-goal percentage last season went up to 43.6 percent from 41.7 percent in 2023-24.

Guards Pop Off Against Skyhawks

• Braeden Speed and Jacob Theodosiou each took control of the scoring in a respective half on November 15 against Stonehill, and the pair both finished with 21 points in the Loyola win.
• Speed did the bulk of his scoring in the first half, tallying 15 of Loyola's 37 before the break en route. The 15 points in the first 20 minutes matched his previous career-high, and he finished with 21.
• Theodosiou then put up 17 of Loyola's 37 in the second half of the game, also totaling with 21. Theodosiou had a stretch of steal and fast-break layups over three-straight possessions early in the second half, and the 2024-25 Patriot League leader in steals tallied a career-high five in the game.

Troy From Three

• Troy Cicero Jr. has seen the most extended playing time of his career after missing a large part of his first two seasons with injuries. Coming into this season, he had played just 117 minutes 22 games, but this year, he's averaged 12.1 minutes per game off the bench while becoming an impact player on offense.
• Cicero leads Loyola from 3-point range, going 14 of 25 (.560) in the first seven games. He made three from behind the arc versus both Penn State Abington and NJIT, and he had two more against Stonehill. Prior to this year, he had made only four threes in his career on 15 attempts.
• Cicero is averaging 7.3 points per game over the year's first seven games, shooting an overage 54.5 percent from the field.

Field Goals In Bulk

• Jacob Theodosiou (10) and Braeden Speed (9) combined for 19 made field goals against Stonehill, marking the first time since the 2017-18 season that two Loyola players had nine or more in a game. The last time it occurred was on January 24, 2018, in a 91-88 win over Lehigh when Andre Walker scored 32 on 11 of 30 shooting, and Cam Gregory added 24 while making 9 of 15. 
• Speed and Theodosiou went 9 of 14 and 10 of 18, respectively, and shot a combined .594 against the Skyhawks.

Theodosiou's Thievery

• Jacob Theodosiou had a career-high five steals on November 15 against Stonehill, four which came in the second half and three on back-to-back-to-back possessions that led to his fast-break layups.
• He led the Patriot League in steals per game a year ago, averaging 1.7 with 54 total steals. This year, he has 18 swipes in seven games and leads the conference at 2.6 per game. He is 10th nationally in total steals.

Sirtautas' Swats

• Jonas Sirtautas blocked five NJIT shots on November 11, and he now has four games at Loyola with multiple blocks after knocking away four at Kentucky.
• His five blocks were the most by a Loyola player since Chancellor Barnard had five exactly nine years prior (November 11, 2016, at Duquesne). It is also the seventh time since 2010 that a Loyola player has blocked five or more shots in a game.
• Through seven games, he leads the Patriot League with 16 blocks, a total that ranks 12th in NCAA Division I.

Perimeter Defense

• The Greyhounds have yielded just 40 made 3-pointers in five games with opponents shooting .280 (30 of 143) from behind the arc.
• Loyola's 3-point percentage defense leads the Patriot League and is 59th nationally.

Backcourt Building

• Of the Greyhounds' returners, players who combined for 91 starts at the guard spots are back on this year's team.
• Jacob Theodosiou was one of two players (Milos Ilic) who started all 31 games last year, while Braeden Speed opened 30, starting every game but Senior Day. Tyson Commander was in the starting five for 19 games, and Jordan Stiemke started 11 games after playing the role of super sixth man for a large part of the season.
• This group also represented Loyola's top-four returning scorers.
• Theodosiou was second on the team last year with 13.0 points per game, while Stiemke (12.1), Speed (8.0) and Commander (5.7) were third, fourth and sixth.

Progress Made

• Loyola picked up its seventh win of the 2024-25 season in its 15th game, matching the Greyhounds' win total from the 2023-24 season (32 total games). Loyola then eclipsed the previous year's total in its 17th game this season. Through 31 games, the Greyhounds made a five-win improvement over 2023-24.
• In Josh Loeffler's first year as Loyola's head coach, the Greyhounds saw improvements in just about every statistical category from the season prior, notably: field-goal percentage (.436 from .417), scoring offense (69.2, 64.0) and scoring margin (-1.9, -7.9).

• Loyola's roster of 15 players will represent six different nations by nationality this season: Australia (Emmett Adair), Canada (Jacob Theodosiou), England (Sebastien Emenalo), Lithuania (Jonas Sirtautus), New Zealand (Carter Berg-McLean) and the United States.
• In addition to the six countries represented, Loyola players hail from seven different states in the U.S.: Arizona (Braeden Speed), Connecticut (Peter Sposito), Illinois (Troy Cicero Jr.), Maryland (Tyson Commander, Jordan Stiemke), New Jersey (Everett Barnes), Ohio (Ben Menker, Sam Springer) and Virginia (Garrett Brennan, Goap Kodi).

Contributions In Many Areas

• Jacob Theodosiou led the team last in minutes (31.1) as a first-year player on the Greyhounds' roster.
• The native of Waterloo, Ontario, put up a new high of 27 points in a one-point win at home over Navy, going 6 of 11 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 at the free-throw line. His 22-point game at Bucknell marked his fourth with 20 or more this year, and he set a new career-best with 32 on February 8, 2025, at Colgate.
• He finished second on the team in scoring (13.1) and assists (2.7), was first in steals (1.8) and third in rebounds (4.0). 

Not Just A Bench Scorer

• Jordan Stiemke was the top scorer off the bench in the Patriot League this season, averaging 12.1 points per game in 31 Loyola contests to lead conference players who have started 12 or fewer games.
• Nationally, he ranked 12th in points per game among NCAA Division I players who have played in 30 or more games and have 12 or fewer starts per stathead.com.
• The native of Bel Air, Maryland, was Loyola's second-leading scorer in the last 10 games of his freshman season (2023-24), averaging 10.3 points. Prior to that, he had scored just 34 points in 15 games.
• Between that stretch to finish his freshman year, and his 12.1 points per game as a sophomore, Stiemke has averaged 11.2 points over the Greyhounds' last 46 games.

Theodosiou Turned It Up

• Jacob Theodosiou finished Loyola's 11-game non-conference schedule with 128 points, an average of 11.6 per game, but his scoring average finished the year a point-and-a-half higher (13.1) thanks to averaging 13.6 per game in Patriot League contests.
• He shot 3-pointers at a better clip in conference games, .351 to 318, and his non-scoring numbers rose, too. Theodosiou averaged 4.8 rebounds per game in Patriot League games (3.1 non-conference), and he had a 1.24 assist-to-turnover ration in League games compared to a 0.73 mark out of conference.

At The Next Level

• As a school of less than 4,000 undergraduate students, Loyola University Maryland boasted three former student-athletes on NBA rosters as players last month on opening night. Two members of the men's basketball incoming class of 2019, Santi Aldama (SAHN-tee ALL-dah-muh) and Cam Spencer are on the Memphis Grizzlies' roster, and four-time men's lacrosse All-American Pat Spencer is a member of the Golden State Warriors.
• Aldama was a first-round draft pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after leading the Patriot League in scoring and rebounding in 2020-21, and Cam Spencer led the conference in scoring the following season. He has played in 252 NBA games through November 23 and is averaging 13.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in 17 outings this season after signing a four-year contract during the summer. He has starred for his native Spain, earning TISSOT Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament before averaging 17.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in three games during the Olympics.
• Cam Spencer, who was a three-year starter for the Greyhounds from 2019-22, and won an NCAA Championship at Connecticut in 2023-24, made his NBA debut on November 20, 2024 for the Grizzlies and is averaging 9.5 points in 17 games this year.
• Pat Spencer holds the Loyola men's lacrosse records for career assists and points and was the 2019 NCAA Division I Player of the Year for the Greyhounds. He switched to basketball after graduating from Loyola and has seen action in 55 games over the last three years for Golden State. This year, he's averaging 5.5 points in 10 outings.
