WASHINGTON, D.C. — American University swept Loyola Maryland in straight sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-14) Friday night at Bender Arena, handing the Greyhounds a Patriot League defeat.
American (20-4, 13-1 Patriot League) controlled the match from the outset, hitting .308 as a team and limiting Loyola (6-17, 4-10) to a .027 attack percentage. The Eagles jumped out to early leads in each set and never trailed after the midway point.
Ava Nepkin had seven kills and five digs for the Greyhounds, and Addie Lowe added five kills; Gabi Verdicchio and Addie Huber each had nine digs. Morgan Crawford and Ellie Joffe both had three total blocks.
American's Sophie Dufour paced all players with 11 kills and hit .273.
The Greyhounds kept the opening set close early, pulling within 9-8 before American used a 7-2 run to pull away. Loyola's best stretch came in the second set, when a service ace by Addie Huber and a kill by Kacy Sekunda trimmed the deficit to 13-11, but the Eagles responded with another surge to close out the frame.
