Women's Basketball Rally in Second Half for Comeback Win Over UMBC

BALTIMORE —  Loyola University Maryland erased a 13-point deficit and stormed back with a dominant fourth quarter on Tuesday night, using a 11-0 run late in the fourth quarter to knock off the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, 60-57, in a road non-conference matchup.  

Kimmie Hicks powered the comeback, scoring eight of her 14 points in the final period and calmly sinking six free throws in the fourth. The Greyhounds (3–7) outscored UMBC 24–12 in the last 10 minutes, including 11-1 rebounding margin, flipping a game they had trailed for the majority of the game.

Lex Therien finished with 13 points, Amandine Amorich added nine points, while Koi Sims posted nine points and eight rebounds, while Whitley Watkins provided big minutes late in the game, coming up with a pair of big rebounds, as she finished with six points and four rebounds.

Down 34-21 with 6:35 left in the third quarter, the Greyhounds began to chip away at the UMBC lead. Hicks and Amorich sparked the lead the charge in the combeback, scoring 10 and 9 points respectively over the last 16 minutes of play.

Halfway through the fourth Sydney Bass buried a big corner three to cut the deficit to six. Loyola would hold them scoreless for the next three minutes, as Amorich layup cut the deficit to one point. 

The Retrievers responded with a 5-0 run, but Loyola responded with back-to-back three pointers from Kimmie Hicks and Koi Sims to tie the game at 55-55 with 1:32 remaining. 

Loyola's defense tightened, holding UMBC without a field goal until the final seconds, as they held UMBC scoreless for three minutes and 17 seconds down the stretch to secure the win.

UMBC (4–6) was led by Jade Tillman's 15 points, but the Retrievers sputtered late, committing five turnovers and going 1-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Loyola closed the night shooting 41.5% from the field and 21 for 27 at the line, outscoring UMBC by seven at the stripe, while also holding a 31-25 rebounding margin in the game. The Greyhounds also held a 24–12 advantage in the fourth quarter to secure their second straight road victory.

Loyola will return to Reitz Arena on December 21 to close out non-conference play, as they host Morgan State
