Career Day From Salmeron, Balanced Scoring Leads Women's Basketball to Road Win

Boston -- Laura Salmeron scored a career-high 28 points on Saturday evening, as the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team held on to defeat Boston University 72-68, in a Patriot League matchup. 

Boston's Alex Giannaros made a three-point shot with 1:17 remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Terriers (8-13 overall, 2-8 Patriot League) cut their deficit down to 66-63. 

After both teams got stops on the defensive end, Laura Salmeron made a driving floater with 17 seconds remaining, as the Greyhounds (8-13 overall, 2-8 Patriot League) took a 68-63 lead. 

Over the next five seconds, both teams went to the foul line and made two free throws, as Loyola held on to a 70-65 lead. 

On the ensuing Boston possession, they were fouled on a three-point attempt, as Giannaros made all three-shots, as the Terriers cut their deficit down to two points. 

On the following possession, the Greyhounds were sent to the line where they made one of two free throws. With two seconds remaining, the Greyhounds defense held strong, as they forced a missed three and got the rebound, as they held on to win 72-68. 

Salmeron had a game-high 28 points on 10-14 shooting, including 4-5 from three-point range. Amandine Amorich had 14 points on the evening. 

Sims had 11 rebounds and 3 steals to lead the team, while Meliah Van-Otoo had 4 assists to lead the team. 

Coming out of halftime, the Greyhounds found their stride, as they used a 19-4 run over a 7 minute stretch, as they led 54-41 with 54 seconds left in the third quarter, as they entered the fourth quarter with the lead. 

In the first half, both teams went on 12-0 runs in the half, as the first half was a game of runs. Boston scored a layup right before halftime to tie it at 33-33. 

The Greyhounds return to Reitz next Sunday, as they will host Colgate for Women in Sports Day.
