WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team picked up a pair of Patriot League wins on Friday, extending its winning streak to 10 matches with 4-0 sweeps of Lafayette and Holy Cross.
The Loyola men lost in a pair of matches, falling 4-3 to Lafayette and 4-1 to the Crusaders.
Loyola opened the women's match against the Leopards with a point in the doubles matches.
Lauren Manwiller and
Emma Roeck stopped Olivia Boeckman and Hanna Ganchi, 6-3, in the No. 1 match, and
Jocelyn Assael and
Emi Shivkumar took a 6-0 win over Stella Dodd and Ally Bauer at No. 3. Lafayette's Alyssa Perdomo and Alexandra Waldman were 6-3 victors at No. 2 against
Christine Richiez and
Jessica Bodewes.
The Greyhounds then closed out the match with wins in the four, five and six singles matches.
Manwiller knocked off Waldman, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4, and Roeck was a 6-1, 6-3 winner against Bauer at No. 5 with Bodewes beating Marie Sofia Romaniello, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.
Richiez,
Elena Hartley and
Mia Matriccino were all leading their singles matches when the team contest was decided.
In the Holy Cross match, Bodewes and Richiez earned a 6-1 win over Ahana Nagarkatti and Maddie Hamm on the No. 2 doubles line, and Assael and Shivkumar swept Ashley Zilora and Alison Lynn, 6-0, at No. 3. Manwiller and Roeck led their No. 1 doubles match when the point concluded.
Hartley scored a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Hamm at No. 2 singles, and Manwiller was a 6-1, 6-0, winner against Caroline Fredey, at No. 4. Bodewes scored the third singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Lynn at No. 6. Richiez, Matriccino and Roeck all led their singles matches when play finished.
On the men's side, Lafayette won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
Ryan Boland and
Cristian Pemueller scored a 6-3 victory over Tyler Mahaffey and William Wooley at No. 3, but Aman Ganch and Nick McKenzie slipped past
Noah Castillo and
Ryan Gill, 7-5, at No. 1, and Jack Magnusson and Sam Gelber were 7-5 winners over
George Cavo and
Harry Zeiders at No. 2.
In singles play, the Greyhounds rallied with three wins, but Lafayette also picked up three points.
Ganch beat Castillo, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1, and McKenzie used a third set for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Cavo at No. 2. Derrin Lemer gave Lafayette its third point at No. 3 with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win over Boland.
Gill beat Magnusson, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4, and
Blake Edwards topped Gelber, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. Pemueller outlasted Owen Studdiford, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.
The Greyhounds opened with the doubles point in hand against Holy Cross. Castillo and Gill defeated Teddy Callery and Ezequiel de la Plaza, 7-5, at No. 1, while Cavo and Zeiders edged Alessandro Bizzari and Jeremy Clark, 7-6 (7) at No. 3. Holy Cross' Matt Carlson and Patrick Ling won the No. 2 match, 6-4, over Boland and Pemueller.
De la Plaza was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles for Holy Cross against Castillo, and Camilo Illanes beat Cavo, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4, and Ling beat Boland, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5.
