BALTIMORE –
Georgia Latch set a Maryland single-game school record Wednesday evening with nine assists, and
Chase Boyle scored six times for the 15th-ranked Greyhounds in a 14-10 victory over visiting Georgetown at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Latch's nine assists eclipsed the eight by Livy Rosenzweig during a 2018 game at Colgate. They are also tied for 10
th-most in NCAA Division I single-game history, and they are tied for the most in a Division I game this season.
Her sixth assist of the day, which came in the third quarter on a Boyle goal, gave her 300 points for her career. She is the fourth player in school history to reach that milestone, joining Rosenzweig (437, 2018-22), Hannah Powers (317, 2016-19) and Grace Gavin (311, 2008-11).
Four of Latch's feeds went to Boyle who led all player with six goals.
Elisa Faklaris, who set a career-high with five goals in Loyola's last game on Saturday at Towson, finished with three, and
Emma Talago added a pair for the Greyhounds.
Latch also had a goal to record her second career 10-point outing. It was also her third time with nine or more points. She raised her career assist total to 146, two shy of tying Annie Thomas (2012-15) for second in school history. Her 146 assists are tied for fifth all-time in the Patriot League, and her 304 points are tied for seventh.
Boyle's six goals moved her into fifth place all-time at Loyola in goals scored with 189, passing Hannah Powers' 187 in the process.
The game opened with heavy rain complicating play, and the Greyhounds had just three first-quarter shots while committing five turnovers.
Loyola (4-2 overall) did connect on all three of the shots, however, as Boyle scored at 9:21 and 8:05, and then
Ava Kane cut through the middle, caught a
Gabby Stapleton feed and scored on a player-up opportunity with 4:08 left in the quarter to make it a 3-3 game.
The Hoyas (3-4) scored the next three, however, to lead 6-3 after a Maley Starr goal 5:44 into the second quarter.
Loyola's defense would shut out Georgetown for nearly 19 minutes, and the Greyhounds used a 7-0 run to take control of the game.
Boyle kicked it off with an unassisted goal at 3:41, and Stapleton added a goal to her earlier assist with a player-up chance off a Latch assist 25 seconds later.
That goal sent the teams to the locker rooms at halftime with Georgetown in front, 6-5, but Boyle scored her fourth of the day 2:42 into the second half with another Latch assist, evening the game at 6-6.
Talago put Loyola in front for the first time since it led 2-1 midway through the first quarter, scoring unassisted at 11:26, and Faklaris posted the first of her three second-half goals at 7:51.
Boyle converted on a free-position shot, getting to the far post and dumping in a shot just 30 ticks of the clock after Faklaris' goal, and Boyle added another goal 26 seconds after that to push the lead to 10-6.
Anne McGovern tallied a Hoyas goal with 5:18 on the clock, starting a 3-1 Georgetown run that would see the Hoyas draw within a pair, 11-9, with 12:12 remaining in regulation. Latch had the Loyola goal during that sequence with a Kane assist.
After Hanna Bishop scored unassisted for Georgetown at 12:12 in the fourth quarter, Faklaris and Talago scored with Latch feeds within 52 seconds of each other.
Talago's goal at 10:11 put Loyola back up four, 13-9, and although Anne McGovern's goal with 9:36 to play brought the Hoyas back within three, Faklaris tacked on another goal, again from Latch, with 6:51 on the clock to provide the final 14-10 margin.
Lily Osborne led Loyola on the circle with six draw controls, while Latch added five and Boyle had four.
Osborne and Boyle both had three caused turnovers, and Osborne picked up a team-best three ground balls.
Lauren Spence made seven saves – five in the second half – for Loyola.
The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, February 8, with a 12 p.m. game at No. 9 Florida.
