BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse scored Saturday's first seven goals and scored its most goals in a game since 2021, beating visiting College of the Holy Cross, 21-10, at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Mason Cook finished with five goals and five assists to become the first Loyola freshman since 2016 to post 10 points. Pat Spencer had five and five in that season's Patriot League Championship Game against Army West Point.
Ryan McGorry and
Will McCulloch both had career-highs with five and four points, respectively. McGorry scored three times and had a pair of assists, and McCulloch had two of each.
Grady O'Day and
Connor Wilbur each logged a trio of points with O'Day scoring twice with an assist and Wilbur posting a goal with two assists.
Matthew Minicus scored four goals, and
Brady Quinn had a goal and an assist.
Austin Cote,
Chase Brody and
Luke Murphy both had singular goals, while
Bruno Chapman,
Carson Hall,
Cole Erickson and
Marek Seaman each had assists.
Hall won a career-high 17 faceoffs, going 17 of 23 with seven ground balls.
Max Watkinson and
Ben Abel combined for 17 saves with Watkinson posting 13 in just under 50 minutes of action.
Brady Rogoff caused a career-high three turnovers.
Loyola got off to a hot start with six first-quarter goals that came over a stretch of less than nine minutes.
McCulloch connected with McGorry for an extra-man goal at 10:27 to start the scoring, and Quinn dodged from 'X' for a tally 61 seconds later.
An even minute after that, Cook scored his first via a McGorry assist, and Minicus cut to the middle to catch a Cook pass and score at 7:52, pushing the lead to 4-0.
O'Day logged a goal at 3:42, and McGorry scored his second with 2:13 on the clock, sending the teams into the second quarter with Loyola up, 6-0.
Brody would stay on after a defensive shift, and Cook threw to him for a stepdown goal at 13:18, giving Loyola a seven-goal lead.
Holy Cross would score twice on extra-man over the next five minutes, but Loyola came back with Cook and Minicus goals later in the second quarter to make it 9-2 Greyhounds at halftime.
Will Messineo scored twice in the second half's first five minutes for the Crusaders, but McCulloch tallied an extra-man goal, and McGorry set a career-best with his third of the day, unassisted at 8:38.
Minicus and Wilbur both scored after a Holy Cross goal, and John Mitchell added a pair of Holy Cross goals to make it 13-7 with 4:37 left in the frame.
Loyola, however scored six of the next s4even with Cook scoring three and Minicus, Cote and Murphy each adding one. McCulloch and O'Day scored the final two goals off transition runs in the last four minutes of regulation.
The Greyhounds will play their final home game of the regular season on Friday, April 18, with a 7 p.m. contest against the U.S. Naval Academy that will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
