TOWSON, Md. –
Lauren Manwiller,
Elena Hartley and
Jessica Bodewes won singles matches, and the Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches for the opening point, to secure a 4-3 non-conference victory over host Towson University on Wednesday afternoon.
Manwiller won a tiebreaker in the second set over Kiersten Tambe to take a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory at No. 1 singles, and Hartley dispatched Gaia Montecchi, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2.
Bodewes won an extended tiebreaker in the first set, 7-6 (10) over the Tigers' Aubrey Carper before shutting out the Towson player, 6-0, in the second, for a victory at No. 5 singles.
Loyola shutout the Tigers in doubles, winning all three matches.
Manwiller and
Emma Roeck beat Tambe and Chandré Boshoff, 6-3, at No. 1, and
Jocelyn Assael and
Emi Shivkumar paired for a 7-5 victory over Ashira Murray and Olivia Rothfield at No. 2.
Bodewes and
Mia Matriccino scored a 6-2 win at No. 3 against Montecchi and Sania Suchinsky.
Matriccino lost the opening set, 6-7 (2), to Towson's Tamzin Pountney at No. 3 singles, but she came back to win the next sets, 6-2, but Pountney won the third, 7-5.
Rothfield was a 6-1, 6-1, winner against Roeck at No. 4, and Suchinsky edged Shivkumar, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 5 singles.
